Description:
Rockland (Maine) Congregational Church Records 1838-1945. Compiled and edited by Marlene A Groves, CG. 512 pp, 9,912 entry Every Name Index. Hard cover.
The members of the Rockland Congregational Church initially held their worship services jointly with the Baptists from 1835 until 1838. In 1838 the Baptists' interest in the church was bought by Iddo Kimball who was very instrumental in getting their own church built. The first pastor was Rev. Samuel Fessenden who served the church for 20 years.
These early records of the church and parish are contained in seven books with the earliest meeting records beginning in 1837 and Resister of Communicants in 1838. By the late 1800s records of baptisms and information on members admitted to the church or dismissed elswhere were recorded. The same was true when a member left. Occasionally a lenghthy writeup following the dealth of a member is recorded usually in the minutes of the Annual Meeting. Only the early financial reports have been transcribed.
Due to the size of the original transcription, this published version has been edited by Marlene Groves who has not included data of less interest to genealogical researchers.
