Rev. Cutter served as pastor of the Second Congregational Church in Warren from 1833 to 1846 and then of the First Congregational Church in Belfast, more familiarly known as the North Church, from 1846 to 1856. During both these pastorates Rev. Cutter kept complete records of births, marriages and deaths plus detailed notes on the cause of death, funerals, family relations, names of members joining and leaving the church and other matters, all adding significantly to the value of his journal.
Rev. Cutter's records have never before been copied or published, and are now made available to the genealogical community through the kindness of his great-granddaughter Margaret Stone. This verbatim transcription of the original has been made, with her usual accuracy, by Elizabeth M. Mosher.
The genealogical value of these records has been enhanced by a scholarly and well researched Introduction by Justice David A. Nichols, tracing the 18th and early 19th century history of the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches of these two mid-coast Maine towns. The addition of a new Every-Name index by Lewis Bunker Rohrbach, C.G., with 2,250 entries puts the entire contents of Rev. Cutter's journal at your fingertips.
"These Church records contain a wealth of genealogical material concerning the members of his congregation, as well as a background of the church history of the Warren and Belfast churches. - Heritage Quest.
"Libraries with significant genealogical collections relating to Maine will want this book." -- The Maine Seine.
