The churchbooks of Kirchgemeinde Brienz 1553-1875 are contained in 18 original Kirchenbücher, 16 of which are held by Staatsarchiv des Kantons Bern, which also owns the copyright to all of them. Kirchenbücher numbers 3 and 12 (baptisms 1626-1663, marriages 1626-1663, deaths 1626-1663 and foreign baptisms 1764-1875) are missing. The 18 Kirchenbücher of Kirchgemeinde Brienz include the records of the Gemeinden Brienz, Brienzwiler, Hofstetten bei Brienz, Oberried am Brienzersee, and Schwanden bei Brienz (called Schwanden until 1911); and the former Gemeinde Ebligen, which joined Gemeinde Oberried am Brienzersee in 1914. Staatsarchiv Bern has duplicated the 16 available Kirchenbücher on 13 rolls of microfilm. It is these 13 rolls of microfilm which, with the assistance of Staatsarchiv des Kantons Bern, we have digitized here on CD-Rom.
