The churchbooks of Kirchgemeinde Thun, Canton Bern, Switzerland 1793-1875 are contained in
16 original Kirchenbücher, all of which are held by Staatsarchiv des
Kantons Bern, which also owns the copyright to all of them. The 16
Kirchenbücher of Kirchgemeinde Thun include the records of the Gemeinden Schwendibach and Thun; as well as two former Gemeinden: Goldiwil (joined with Thun in 1913) and Strättlilgen (joined with Thun in 1920). A great fire in 1772 destsroyed the early records, and Johann Heinrich Koch-Grimm (1706-1787) compiled a reconstructed Taufrodel 1528-1727. Also, a Taufrodel 1732-1847 and Eherodel 1578-1838 were reconstructed. The following Rodel are missing from Staatsarchiv: Taufrodel 1528-1727; Taufrodel 1732-1837; Taufrodel 1728-1883; Eherodel 1578-1886; and Totenrodel 1728-1838. Staatsarchiv Bern has duplicated all 16 Kirchenbücher on 6 rolls
of microfilm. It is these 6 rolls of microfilm which, with the assistance
of Staatsarchiv des Kantons Bern, we have digitized here on CD-Rom in easy to use PDF format. These CDs have the Adobe abilities to enlarge the images, etc., but the CDs are not printable. However, printed copies of individual pages are available for those who have purchased CDs at a cost of $2.50 per page plus p&h. Also included on the CD is a map of Switzerland showing Canton bounderies, a map of Canton Bern showing the location of the Gemeinde, a foreword, bookmarks to each separate churchbook, and a list of Geschlechter for this Gemeinde. A valuable Swiss research tool!
