Description:
Vital Records of Friendship, Maine. Compiled by Marlene A. Groves, CG. Est. 220pp., with Every Name Index. #2079
The town of Friendship is located in Knox County in the State of Maine and is sixteen miles southwest of the county seat, Rockland. The town was originally known as Meduncook Plantation with settlers in the region as early as 1743. The town was incorporated as Friendship on February 25, 1807.
The records in this book have been transcribed verbatim from the original record books in the town office. The very early books of this town are no longer in existence and for these older records it is recommended that the researcher consult Melville Bradford Cook’s Records of Meduncook Plantation and Friendship, Maine 1762–1899, reprinted by Picton Press.
Prior to the mid-1800s there may well be some duplication of records between these two books; however, after about 1860 Cook seems to have not included marriage records in his book. All marriage intentions and marriage records found in the town’s record books have been transcribed in this book, adding to its value to the researcher.
