The full set of these CDs contain the entire set of passports issued in Canton Bern for a full half-century. This one CD contains passports for the dates 1 April 1838-30 June 1847, with an index. The data on each person normally includes their full name, their Gemeinde, their current residence, age, occupation, the place they are travelling to, the period of time they expect to be gone (as you might expect, many emigrants said they were going only for one year), and the names, ages and relationship of the people with whom they are travelling.
This is an absolute gold mine for 19th century Swiss Research!
