Description:
In his introduction, the author notes that Cabot is a rare name, and that almost half the Cabots in this country can trace their ancestry to one of three emigrants from Jersey in the Channel Islands. While descendants of John Cabot of Salem were well traced by L. Vernon Briggs in a two-volume 1927 genealogy, descendants of his brother, George, were mostly ignored by Briggs. Fortunately, other Cabot family historians left unpublished manuscripts at NEHGS on George's descendants, to which current NEHGS president John G.L. Cabot has added his own extensive research. Descendants of George Cabot have spread across this country from early generations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont; the author has traced them to the present wherever possible.
