Description:
Known by many as "The Thwing Index," this CD-ROM database, a collaboration between NEHGS and the Massachusetts Historical Society, includes Annie Haven Thwing's massive collection of work on the families of pre-1800 Boston. Over 125,000 index cards have been transcribed from original and published sources, resulting in a database that includes information on vital records, property holdings, occupation, town offices held, church affiliation, burial, and more for thousands of property holders. In addition, the complete contents of the book "Crooked and Narrow Streets of Boston" - which Thwing wrote to put her collected information in context - are included on this CD-ROM in a fully-searchable version. Thwing's work, which provides one of the most complete pictures possible of Boston's inhabitants, will prove invaluable to historians, as well as genealogists.
