Description:
Knox County, Maine was established 1 April 1860. It was formed from parts of two counties: Lincoln County and Waldo County. From Lincoln County it took the city of Rockland and the towns of Cushing, Friendship, Matinicus, St. George, South Thomaston, Thomaston, Union, Warren and Washington. From Waldo County it took the towns Appleton, Camden, Hope, North Haven and Vinalhaven. There has been only one change in county boundaries since its establishment – the annexation from Hancock County of the town of Isle au Haut, on 12 March 1913. Knox County now consists of one city, 16 towns, one plantation and 27 unincorporated islands.
In this CD-Rom series, Picton Press brings you the original images of all surviving deeds from the Knox County towns that were previously located in Lincoln County for the dates 1836-1860. You will not find the deeds to the towns previously located in Waldo County on these CDs. Deeds are a wonderful source of genealogical data and will help you research many of your Maine families.
