This volume represents one of the few periodically revised historical volumes in the Reformed Church in America. The effort was begun by Edward T. Corwin in his Manual of the Reformed Church in America in 1859. Corwin later produced three revisions of that pioneering effort, his son Charles added another, Peter VandenBerge produced two more, and Russell L. Gasero updated the Directory in 1992. This, then, is the ninth revision of the original Manual. The Manual was a handbook about the life and ministry of the Reformed Church in America. In addition to lists of ordained ministers and organized congregations, it included historical chapters detailing the development of the church and the organization of its boards of missions and educational institutions.
Today, the historical studies are well established in the more than thirty-five volumes of the Historical Series of the Reformed Church in America.
