During the eighteenth century, on at least three separate occasions, immigrants by the name of Schwingel, or one of its numerous variant spellings, came to America. These immigrants were Johann Nickel Schwenckel who came in 1751 and Johan George Schwingel who came in 1785.
The first known Schwingels or Swingles in this country were Johan Nickel Schwingel and his family who arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Samuel from Rotterdam, on 3 Dec. 1740.
It is the purpose of this book to connect this immigrant family to their German ancestors and to trace the grandchildren and their known descendants in America for a maximum of seven generations.
