The town of Caribou is located in the center of Aroostook County and was first incorporated in 1848 as Letter H Township, when records were kept. The vital records in the book were compiled verbatim from all six surviving early town clerk record books for Caribou. Early settlers came from New Brunswick, some being Irish and French, and there also were some Swedish immigrants.
