It is with real pleasure that we at Picton Press are able to bring Leonard Smith's transcription of these valuable early Nova Scotia records back into print, now re-typeset and newly indexed. Mr. Smith showed uncommon perseverance in locating, transcribing verbatim, and then arranging permission to publish, these wonderful vital records from Nova Scotia's history. Not only do the records keep alive the records and memories of these valiant Roman Catholic pioneers, they also include one of the earlier American Indian family censuses.
All of those recorded here have been gone for close to two centuries, but their genes and their pride live on in their descendants today. We hope that making these reocrds again available to family historians and genealogists today will spur them to keep memories of their ancestors alive.
