Etna is a small town in Penobscot County, situated 17 miles west of Bangor, Maine. Its records begin with 1807, when the town was first settled.
The editors have very carefully extracted not only the births, deaths, intentions of marriages and marriages but also some ear marks and resolutions of fence line disputes. The records have been transcribed verbatim, retaining the original spelling and punctuation, making no corrections even where errors were apparent. As is customary with modern scholarship, the order of entries has also been retained as it is in the original records.
